In the last leg of campaigning, the BJP has decided to go
full throttle with Prime Minister Narendra Modi taking centre stage again for
the party at four rallies across the Capital.
The rallies are expected to be held in the last few days of
campaigning to make the maximum impact on voters. Apart from the Prime
Minister, who had been the sole face of the party before Kiran Bedi was
declared the chief ministerial nominee, senior party leaders and union ministers
will hold rallies for BJP candidates.
According to Anil Jain, senior BJP leader and in-charge of
rallies, Modi will address voters of about 20 assembly constituencies at the
CBD ground in Shahdara.
Neither Modi nor party president Amit Shah, however, is
likely to hold any rally in the New Delhi assembly segment from where AAP
leader Arvind Kejriwal is contesting. To ensure that the rallies are a
resounding success the central leadership will monitor all the arrangements
after allegations of a poor show at the Ramlila Maidan rally.
“Modi-ji will address four rallies in various parts of the
city. However, there is no plan for a meeting in the New Delhi assembly
constituency. We will have other senior leaders holding rallies and roadshows
there in the days to come,” said Satish Upadhyay, Delhi BJP president.
Sources said the rallies have been organised in such a
manner that they will be able to cover almost all the 70 constituencies. Delhi
will go to polls on February 7 and rallies by the Prime Minister will take
place on February 1, 3 and 4 to help the party accelerate. Sources said most of
the venues that have been selected are the same from where Modi had addressed
rallies in 2013 assembly elections and 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
The February 4 rally will target residents of unauthorised
colonies in and around Ambedkar Nagar and neighbouring Deoli, Sangam Vihar — a
reserved constituency. Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi had addressed two
rallies at the same venue in 2013 and 2014.
Even Modi had addressed the voters of this constituency in
2013 but the rally did not have much impact on the poll prospects of the BJP
candidate as he lost to AAP candidate Ashok Kumar Chouhan, who has switched
loyalties and is now a BJP candidate.
Modi had launched BJP’s election campaign on January 10 when
he had addressed a rally at Ramlila Maidan in central Delhi.
